The Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre and the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu on Wednesday visited the site where the new parliament building and presidential complex are being constructed receiving an update on the progress achieved.
Murat Kenkül, the TRNC Coordinator from the Siyahkalem Engineering Construction Industry and Trade Company in charge of the construction, gave a presentation to Töre and Feyzioğlu regarding the two complexes which will include a Nation Park and a mosque.
Speaking during the visit, the Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre expressed the hope that the projects will be completed soon and thanked Motherland Türkiye.
“Many projects have been carried out in the TRNC, but the current Presidential palace is an old building dating back to the island’s British colonial administration and since the Office of the President is one of the most important institutions of the state a building deserving of its status is required. The same goes for parliament. We are extremely grateful to motherland Türkiye for its aid,” he said.
Referring to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s words the world is bigger than five, Töre emphasized that Türkiye is of great value for the Turkish Cypriot people.
Also speaking, the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu referred to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s call for the recognition of the TRNC, drawing attention to the importance of the campus in this context.
“This structure is something that the Turkish Cypriots will be proud of,” said Feyzioğlu, noting that it will symbolise the TRNC’s independence and sovereignty, signifying its permanence.
He also said that the complexes were a gift to the Turkish Cypriot people from the Turkish nation.
