The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre issued a message to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
In his message Töre wrote that the establishment of the TRNC was the result of an honourable struggle for the existence of the Turkish Cypriot people to gain their freedom.
The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre in his message said that on the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, as the Turkish Cypriot people, they were proud to celebrate Republic Day this year with great excitement, honour and pride and look to the future with confidence.
Stating that the environment of peace, freedom and independence gained with the July 20, 1974 Peace Operation was crowned with the declaration of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on November 15, 1983, Töre said, “the Turkish Cypriots who have not submitted to oppression throughout history and are able to exist in their own homelands, were able to declare before the world that they gained their own lands, unconditional sovereignty, independence and national state through their struggles.”
He said that the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and the liberation of the Turkish Cypriot people is the result of an honourable struggle for existence waged by the Turkish Cypriots.
“It has not been easy to come from those days to today. We will continue to defend our just cause by protecting our struggle today and in the future as we did in the past” said Töre and emphasized that the Republic of Türkiye stands by the Turkish Cypriot people in all matters and continues to make intensive diplomatic efforts to defend the just cause of Turkish Cypriots on every platform with the same determination.
“Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s statement at the UN General Assembly that the registration of the sovereign equality and equal international status rights of the Turkish Cypriot people is the key to the solution on the island, and his call to the international community to end the persecution of the Turkish Cypriots, who are trying to be cut off from the world with embargoes, has had positive repercussions” said Töre.
Noting that the Turkish President’s call to the international community to officially recognize the TRNC as soon as possible has been a very important step in terms of resonating the Turkish Cypriot people’s just cause in the international community, Töre said that immediately after this call, the TRNC was accepted as an observer member to the Organization of Turkic States and a historic step was taken in this direction.
“Undoubtedly, these steps will continue and the Turkish Cypriot people will have the place they deserve in the international arena” said Töre.
He said that it was everyone’s duty to promote the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as a respected member of the international community, as a sovereign and independent state, and to maintain the existence of the state forever.
