Acting President and Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre has said that the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to the TRNC demonstrated the importance he attaches to the country.
“We will witness the rise of Türkiye, the TRNC and the Turkic world in this century under the leadership and guidance of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan,” he said.
Evaluating the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s latest visit to the TRNC to the Anadolu News Agency on Thursday, Acting President and Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre said that he considered the Turkish president’s visit to the TRNC as a significant and sacred development.
He added that Erdoğan’s visit demonstrated the importance he attached to the TRNC.
“Mr President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is pursuing the national cause, the national interest. In the TRNC, the national cause and interest are indispensable. The concept of the Blue Homeland is derived from the sea surrounding the TRNC. Therefore, the concept of homeland encompasses land, air, and sea for us,” he said.
Referring to Erdoğan’s remarks during his visit, Zorlu Töre said that the call he made for the recognition of the TRNC and the precondition he set for the commencing of official talks on the Cyprus issue gave a strong message to both the international community and the Greek Cypriot Administration.
Touching upon the issue of guarantees, the TRNC’s acting president and parliament speaker said that Türkiye’s guarantees were more than just an obligation under international law.
“Türkiye’s presence in the TRNC is not just because it is guarantor power. The guarantees are important from the perspective of international law, but we are Turks and members of the Turkish nation. We as Turks share a common cause, common interests, and we can only defend and carry them into the future together with Türkiye,” he said.
Töre also said that the issue raised by Erdoğan during his visit, such as plans to bring electricity to the island via an underwater cable, the completion of the new terminal building and runway of Ercan Airport by July 20, and other projects, were significant developments for the Turkish Cypriot people.
Highlighting that Türkiye’s growing power and influence within the the international arena can also bring significant benefits to the TRNC, Töre concluded by saying, “We will witness the rise of Türkiye, the TRNC and the Turkic world in this century under the leadership and guidance of Turkish President President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.”
