The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre said on Wednesday that the Greek Cypriot administration continued to see Turkish Cypriots as a minority.

Answering questions on a program he attended on Ada TV, Töre reminded that the Greek Cypriots had objected to the TRNC flag placed at the Inter-Parliamentary Union Meeting held in Bahrain.

He said that they could not tolerate the TRNC flag.

Stating that this attitude of the Greek Cypriot side was an indicator of the stance they will adopt if negotiations are to restart, he noted that the Greek Cypriot mentality that sees the Turkish Cypriots as a minority had not changed.

Stating that the aim of the Greek Cypriots was to make the Cyprus issue a European Union issue, Töre noted that the Cyprus issue was a Turkish-Greek issue and that other factors were also at play.

Explaining that Turkish President Erdoğan’s call for the “recognition of the TRNC” at the UN General Assembly, the observer membership to the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) and the representation in the OTS meeting held in Ankara were all significant developments, the parliamentary speaker expressed his desire that the TRNC will be recognized by some countries in the near future.
