The Acting President and Speaker of the TRNC Parliament  Zorlu Töre has drawn attention to the need to achieve a more efficient public system to address outstanding issues caused by delays.

Töre drew attention to the need to amend the constitution and introduce more reforms.

Speaking on BRT on Friday morning, Acting President and Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre said that various state decrees have caused serious problems and needed to be terminated as soon as possible.

He said that as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) prepared to celebrate its 40 anniversary many problems experienced in the country were solved.

Töre however added that there were still pending issues and changes that needed to be made to the constitution.

“There are certainly things we have failed to achieve such as the completion of the Lefkoşa ring road, all of which have been struck by bureaucratic obstacles. Development in many residential areas is restricted and defined by decrees which prevent property owners from benefitting from the true value of their land. Such legislation introduced after the Annan Plan should have been scrapped a long time ago and we should focus more on urban planning. There are decrees in places like Karpaz, Dikmen-Boğaz, and Çamlıbel,” he said.

Töre also drew attention to the problems associated with the state’s sluggish bureaucracy and outdated laws and regulations.

“We are aware that there are many problems in the state’s operational structure. Reorganization is necessary,” he said, drawing attention to the need to take steps that will allow government and state procedures to function more efficiently.
