Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre issued a message in commemoration of the 49th anniversary of the second phase of the Cyprus Peace Operation.

In his message, Töre said that Türkiye, which exhausted all diplomatic initiatives and efforts at the Geneva Conference at a time when the Greek Cypriots committed massacres in order to realize Enosis and destroy the Turkish Cypriot people by failing to digest the existence of the Turkish Cypriot people who have been living in these lands inherited from our ancestors, completed the Peace Operation, which was launched on July 20, 1974, with a second peace operation on August 14, 1974, using its rights as guarantor power.

“Türkiye, with the support it has given to the ongoing struggle of the Turkish Cypriots for years, has enabled us to live peacefully, freely and safely on the island within our current borders drawn out by the 2nd Peace Operation,” said Töre.

He condemned the mentality and those who support the mentality that committed the greatest crimes of humanity such as genocide and buried the Turkish Cypriot people in mass pits without differentiating between children, women, young or old.

“The same mentality continues to spend $2m a day on armament. Türkiye stands firm against this mentality and continues to ensure our security,” said Töre and expressed his gratitude to the Turkish Armed Forces, to all those who have prioritized diplomacy in the historical process, prepared the ground for the International Cyprus Agreements and made efforts for the rights and laws of the Turkish Cypriots.

Töre saluted the Second Peace Operation and commemorated the then Turkish Prime Minister Bülent Ecevit and Deputy Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan, Turkish Cypriot leader Dr. Fazil Küçük, Founding President Rauf R. Denktaş, the freedom fighters and the martyrs who gave their lives for the national cause.

He also wished the veterans a long and health life.
