Acting President and the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre emphasized that the Turkic world should cooperate in every field.
Töre also emphasized that the Turkish Cypriots, today live in security and peace thanks to the Turkish army.
A cooperation protocol will be signed between the Union of Turkish Cypriot Municipalities and the Union of City Municipalities of Azerbaijan.
The visiting delegation from Azerbaijan paid a visit to Acting President and Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre.
Töre came together with the President of the Union of Turkish Cypriot Municipalities Mahmut Özçınar and the President of the Union of City Municipalities of Azerbaijan Tamraz Taghiyev and their delegations.
Speaking during the visit Töre thanked Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who supported them in the Organization of Turkic States and said “My world is the Turkic world”.
Töre asked other Turkic states to provide the necessary support to the Turkish Cypriot people, which is an integral part of the Turkish nation.
Töre said, “We were in these lands from 1571 to 1878. When the Ottoman soldiers withdrew from the island in 1878, we stayed here as Turks in Cyprus. 96 years later, we met with the Turkish army, and today we live in security and peace.”
Töre also said that they salute the Nagorno-Karabakh region being taken back to Azerbaijani territory, that they are excited, that they commemorate with respect those who became martyrs while fighting here and added that they will never forget the massacre in Khojaly.
Töre also expressed the importance of signing a mutual protocol between Azerbaijani municipalities and the Union of Municipalities and carrying relations to a legal dimension.
