The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre issued a message of condolence to the founding Assembly Member, TMT fighter and commander Halil Paşa, who passed away on Monday.

In his message Töre wrote “I am deeply saddened by the death of our esteemed commander Halil Paşa, who was a valuable member of our Republic’s Assembly, which was formed during the establishment of our state and who served honourably in the Turkish Resistance Organization TMT for many years”.

He added, “Paşa’s struggle for the existence of the Turkish Cypriot people will always be remembered with great respect.”

Töre said that Halil Paşa, who fulfilled all kinds of duties for his homeland without any hesitation, had become one of the symbolic names of the freedom fighters of the Turkish Cypriot people.

“I wish my sincere condolences on the death of Halil Paşa and his bereaved family and the Turkish Cypriot people. May his soul rest in peace” wrote Töre.
