Acting President and the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre has welcomed the remarks made by the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the extraordinary summit of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS).

Töre said that no one should suggest that the Turkish Cypriots should “abandon the TRNC” just because it is not recognized internationally.

Acting President and the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre on Friday vowed to continue working for the promotion and recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Receiving the Parent Teacher Association of a primary school in the Güzelyurt area, Töre said that it was important to raise future generations with patriotic and nationalist values.

Pointing out that everyone desired peace, Töre criticized various circles in the country for being prepared to surrender everything for the sake of reaching a settlement on the island.

“Peace cannot be achieved by losing one’s territory or independence. We will not preach hatred against Greek Cypriots but if they insist on pursuing their dreams of transforming Cyprus into a Greek island then we will act accordingly,”   he added.

Highlighting the importance of the TRNC’s representation at the OTS, Töre said that they were extremely honoured by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s remarks who said that the family of Turkic states had become richer with the TRNC joining the organisation and that international embargoes imposed on Turkish Cypriots should be removed.
