Acting President, the Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre said that the return of Turkish Cypriots living abroad to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) should be ensured adding that it was vital for those who cannot return, to preserve their national and spiritual values ​​in regions they are residing.

Acting President, the Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre received a delegation from the Committee on Turkish Cypriots Living Abroad on Wednesday.

Speaking during the visit, the President of the Committee Leyla Kemal expressed their demand for the Turkish Cypriots living abroad to be granted the right to vote as soon as possible by making the necessary amendments in the law.

Referring to the fact that assimilation was the greatest danger for those living abroad; Kemal stated that it was extremely important to establish ties and bridges with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Acting President, the Speaker of Parliament Töre for his part reminded that the total number of Turkish Cypriots living abroad was actually more than the number of Greek Cypriots on the island and he said that this was a bittersweet situation.

He added that the state should always be protected and the return of Turkish Cypriots living abroad to the island should be ensured.

Expressing that it was vital for citizens who could not return to the TRNC to protect their national and spiritual values ​​and cultures in the regions where they are residing, Töre said that this was one of the main duties of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

“It is commendable that you carry out these works in the countries where you are located. We will always be in contact and solidarity with you” Parliamentary Speaker Töre added.
