Acting President and Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre on Thursday received members of the British Parliament who are in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Speaking during the visit which was realized at the parliament, Töre said that the UK’s recognition of two states on the island and the launch of direct flights would send a powerful message to the Greek Cypriots who claim to be the legal representatives of the island.

British MPs Richard Bacon, Lord John Taylor, Sammy Wilson, Heather Wheeler and Lord Rogan were present during the meeting.

Welcoming the MPs, Töre said that the EU’s greatest mistake had been to accept a divided Cyprus into the block which had in turn emboldened the Greek Cypriots.

He warned that the British Sovereign Bases were next on the list if Greek Cypriots were allowed to get their way.

Töre also informed the British parliamentarians about the historical process on the island.

The acting president expressed his view that the UK’s recognition of two states on the island and the launch of direct flights would send a powerful message to the Greek Cypriots, serving them a good lesson.
