Acting President and Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre received the Turkish Deputy Minister of National Defence Alpaslan Kavaklıoğlu.

The Commander of the Turkish Cypriot Peace Forces in Cyprus Major General Sebahattin Kılınç was also present during the visit.

The Turkish Deputy Minister of National Defence Alpaslan Kavaklığlu was received by the acting President, Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre.

Speaking during the visit Kavaklıoğlu stated that it was a state tradition to pay the first visits to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) once coming to office and added that Türkiye will continue to stand by the Turkish Cypriots as they have done until today.

Emphasizing that the Turkish Armed Forces are the guarantee of peace on the island, Kavaklıoğlu stated that they expect good developments to take place after the call made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the TRNC at the United General Assembly.

Acting President Töre for his part pointed out that the Cyprus issue is not only a matter for Turkish Cypriots but also a national issue for the Turkic world and noted that the subject is of high interest of the Turkic nation.

Stating that the Turkish Cypriot people are an inseparable part of the Turkish nation, Töre stated that despite dark times, the Turkish Cypriot people have shown resistance by preserving their national and spiritual integrity.

He also underlined that the policy put forward by Türkiye together with the TRNC is a national policy and that there will be no question of giving up this national policy.

“We owe our martyrs and the generations that will come after us. We will protect these lands, the state, our glorious army and our flag, said Töre, adding that their love for the Motherland continues as it was on the morning of the July 20 1974 Peace Operation.
