The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre has said that the Eastern Mediterranean plays a strategic and crucial role for Türkiye’s and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’s national cause.
He said that the opening of Turkish naval ships for public visits on special occasions such as the July 20 celebrations created excitement among the public.
The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre on Tuesday received Commodore Naval Colonel Volkan Salih Eser, the Commander of the Naval Academy Training Flotilla, Commander Naval Colonel Lütfü Sezgin, the Commander of TCG Bayraktar, and Captain Naval Lieutenant of TCG Cezayirli Gazi Hasan Paşa, along with the cadets from the Turkish Naval Academy.
Speaking during the meeting held at the Republic’s Assembly’s Honor Hall, Commodore Naval Colonel Volkan S. Eser provided information about the activities of the Naval Academy Training Flotilla, stating that they were in the TRNC to take part in the 20th of July Peace and Freedom Day celebrations.
He also reminded that this year marks the 250th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Naval Academy.
Speaker Zorlu Töre for his part conveyed that the Eastern Mediterranean holds significant importance for the national cause of the Republic of Türkiye and the TRNC, and that in this sense, the opening of Turkish naval ships for public visits on special occasions created excitement among the public.
Töre also pointed out that the Turkish Naval Forces had a significant duty in protecting the rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriot people in the seas and the region, and that the control in the region should not be left to others.
During the reception, there was an exchange of gifts and a group photo was also taken.
