The Director of the State Archives of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye Prof. Dr. Uğur Ünal, who was in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) for the opening of the Evkaf Correspondence Fund, was received by the Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre.

The head of the Library Department of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye Ayhan Tuğlu and the Director of the TRNC National Archives and Research Department Ejdan Sadrazam were also present during the visit.

Speaking during the visit Prof. Dr Uğur Ünal said that they would like to improve cooperation with the TRNC National Archives and Research Department.

Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre for his part noted that the archives are the most valuable documents of a nation’s past centuries, the most valuable documents for historical research and emphasized the importance of preserving social memory.

Referring to the importance of knowing history very well, Töre stated that the archives are the greatest tool in this respect.

He also said that the TRNC authorities should benefit from Türkiye’s experience and knowledge in regard to the archives.
