The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Zorlu Töre has emphasized the importance of protecting the independence and sovereignty of the state.

Töre was speaking during a visit paid to him on Thursday by members of the TMT Freedom Fighters’ Association.

Receiving a delegation from the TMT Freedom Fighters Association on Thursday, the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre said that there was no going back from the two-state policy on the Cyprus issue.

“We shall continue on our righteous path by protecting our national interests and policies,” he said.

Stating that the members of the former Turkish Resistance Organisation (TMT) who were now organised under an association had contributed greatly to the Cyprus cause, Töre thanked them for their service.

“We shall never give up our independence and sovereignty,” he said, adding that despite the challenges and problems faced by the TRNC, there were not reasons to stop believing in the sanctity of the state.

The head of the association Celal Bayar who also spoke during the visit said that it was their obligation to keep the TMT spirit alive and to ensure the continuation of the existence of the TRNC.
