The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Zorlu Töre said that it was out of the question for the Turkish Cypriot people to endorse a settlement that envisages the withdrawal of Turkish troops from Cyprus and the scrapping of the system of guarantees.

Töre’s words came during a visit paid to him by a delegation from the Turkish-Cyprus Cooperation Society which is in the TRNC for a series of contacts.

Speaking during the visit, the President of the Turkish-Cyprus Cooperation Society Rüşat Aydoğan said that the Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre was a statesman who always remained loyal to his views and principles.

Aydoğan said that the TRNC was extremely important, not only for Türkiye but also for the Turkic world.

“That is why the TRNC’s observer status at the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) is an extremely significant development,” he added.

Also speaking, the Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre said that the TRNC was a true Turkish state that embraced the principles of Atatürk and the modern Turkish Republic.

“The TRNC is a gift to us from our veterans and martyrs. Our duty is to protect and preserve our state so that it can be passed onto future generations,” he added.

Töre also said that it was out of the question for the Turkish Cypriot people to endorse a settlement that envisaged the withdrawal of Turkish troops from Cyprus and the scrapping of the system of guarantees.
