The Speaker of the TRNC Parliament Zorlu Töre said on Monday that growth in the defence sector would increase deterrence in the region.

Speaking whilst receiving the Deputy Rector of the Turkish National Defence University and the Director of the Air Warfare Institute, Töre emphasized that the UN Security Council has reached a point where it cannot even succeed in calling for a ceasefire, calling it a shameful situation.

The Speaker of the TRNC Parliament Zorlu Töre on Monday welcomed Prof. Dr. Serdar Salman, the Deputy Rector of the Turkish National Defence University, and Air Warfare Institute Director Brigadier General Yaşar Kadıoğlu.

During the meeting, Töre expressed the belief that a strong Türkiye meant a strong Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and he believed that growth in the defence sector would increase deterrence in the region.

Pointing out that the UN Security Council was in a situation where it is unable to even call for a ceasefire; Töre described it as a shameful state of affairs.

He noted that they believe the observer membership of the TRNC in the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) will shed light on many developments and emphasized their commitment to continue this path with the Republic of Türkiye.

Referring to Turkish President Erdoğan’s statement, “The world is bigger than five; do not expect justice from the EU,” Töre highlighted that recent developments demonstrate the truth and relevance of these words.

Also speaking, Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Serdar Salman emphasized the importance of unity among the Turkish people, stating that Türkiye was a regional power.

Air Warfare Institute Director Brigadier General Yaşar Kadıoğlu, in his speech, mentioned that they teach army candidates the history of Cyprus from the Ottoman period to the present.
