Tourism figures continue to show upward trend

Tourism figures in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) continue to bounce back following the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the latest figures released by the Tourism Ministry, hotel occupancy in the TRNC rose to 31.3% in the first 2 months of 2024.

This figure was 24.5% in 2023.

The Deputy Prime Ministry, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Environment, announced the data for January-February 2024.

According to the Ministry’s data; the average occupancy rate of tourist facilities in the country rose to 31.3% during the period between January and February of this year.

This figure was 24.5% for the same period in 2023.

The occupancy rate at tourist facilities rose by 41.06% compared to the same period of 2023 in terms of total foreign tourists; and by 35.6% in overnight stays.

The same data also gave the total number of Turkish and foreign nationals staying in tourist facilities in the first two months of 2024 at 167,413.

This number for the same period in 2023 was 118,688.

According to the same report, the number of Turkish nationals staying in hotels during the 2-month period increased by 52% compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 140,465.

In the first 2 months of 2024, there was only a 2.31% increase in the number of foreign nationals staying in hotels compared to the same period in 2023.

While 26,336 foreign nationals stayed in hotels in the first two months of 2023, this number rose to 26,948 in 2024.

There was also an increase in overnight stays in January-February 2024.

During this period, the total number of overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 35% to 459,056 compared to 2023.”
