Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu held a series of official contacts in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on Friday.
Karaismailoğlu who held inspections at Ercan Airport’s soon to be opened new modern terminal, announced that flights will commence by mid-November.
Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu who arrived in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Thursday evening embarked on his contacts on Friday.
Minister Karaismailoğlu who attended a technical meeting with a TRNC delegation this morning then held inspections at the new Ercan Airport terminal.
Karaismailoğlu was accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu, the Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı, the Minister of Finance Alişan Şan, the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri, the Commander of the Turkish Peace Forces in Cyprus Major General Sezai Öztürk and officials from the T&T Ercan Airport Operations.
Speaking to the press after the inspection tour, the Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı said that the final remaining issues at the airport had been solved and that test flights could begin soon.
He said an agreement had been reached to put into operation the new terminal building in November.
Also speaking, the Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu highlighted the importance of his contacts in the TRNC and his visit to the new terminal building at Ercan.
He said the new terminal, which would address the growing needs of the TRNC, would become operational in November and that the necessary instructions had been given to the company in running the airport.
Karaismailoğlu also said that work on several road projects were continuing in the TRNC, all of which would be inaugurated in November.
“We will continue to work together, hand-in-hand to address all the problems and challenges the country faces,” he said.
In the afternoon, the visiting minister will come together with the Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı.
He will also be received by President Ersin Tatar before departing from the island.
