The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is undertaking a comprehensive traffic flow survey to evaluate road usage across the country.

Through specialized equipment set up at various points on the national road network, authorities aim to identify traffic volumes on specific roads and gather essential data to guide future expansions of the road infrastructure.

This traffic flow survey is being conducted as part of the TRNC Highways Master Plan.

The TRNC’s Directorate of Highways, under the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation, is coordinating the effort in collaboration with the Turkish Republic’s Directorate General of Highways.

Specialized devices, comprising thin plastic tubes connected to vehicle-counting equipment, have been installed at 72 locations throughout the TRNC to track traffic volume.

According to the Ministry, the data collected will offer crucial insights for determining where and how the TRNC’s highway network should be expanded.

The survey, which began on November 4, is expected to continue until November 22.
