Traffic week is being observed here in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Weeklong events will take place to raise awareness on traffic safety from May 7-13.
Events kicked off on Monday with a cortege procession organised jointly by the Association for the Prevention of Traffic Accidents and the Şht Tuncer Primary School which ended in front of the parliament building.
The head of the Association Mehmet Avcı who spoke at the event pointed out that the majority of accidents were caused by speeding or drunk drivers.
He called on the government to pass legislation on traffic safety that has been pending in parliament for the past four years.
