A joint working meeting was held in Strasbourg between delegations from the TRNC Parliament and the TGNA (Türkiye’s Grand National Assembly), who were attending the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

The meeting focused on the Greek Cypriot administration’s recent attempts to make arrests linked to the construction sector in the TRNC.

Representing the TRNC was a delegation led by National Unity Party (UBP) MP Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu, including Republican Turkish Party (CTP) MP Armağan Candan, as well as the head of the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry, Ali Kamacıoğlu, and President of the Turkish Cypriot Bar Association, Hasan Esendağlı.

The TRNC’s Strasbourg Representative, Selda Çimen, was also present.

Türkiye’s delegation was headed by MP Tuğrul Türkeş.

The meeting addressed the Greek Cypriot administration’s actions targeting the construction industry in the TRNC, raising concerns about their implications for Turkish Cypriot businesses.

In addition to attending the PACE General Assembly and delivering speeches in parliament, the delegations also met with officials from the Directorate General of Human Rights and the Rule of Law at the Council of Europe, continuing discussions on the protection of rights and the rule of law in the region.
