The Undersecretary for the Ministry of Tourism and Environment Serhan Aktunç has said that they were expecting more tourists from Azerbaijan this year.

Aktunç’s words came during the Azerbaijan 19th International Tourism and Travel Fair held in Baku from April 4-6.

Speaking at a press conference in Azerbaijan, Aktunç said that only 5000 tourists from Azerbaijan had visited the TRNC in 2022.

This he added was not fitting for a country that had a special bond with Azerbaijan.

Speaking at a press conference in Baku within the framework of the Azerbaijan 19th International Tourism and Travel Fair, the Undersecretary for the Ministry of Tourism and Environment Serhan Aktunç underlined the importance of improving relations between the two countries.

He said the number of Azeri tourists visiting the country in 2022 was not at the desired level, particularly when considering that Azerbaijan had close relations with the TRNC.

Aktunç said that the two countries should work harder to enhance the economic and political relationship between the two countries to a higher level.

“We hope that 2023 will be a year of new beginnings between our two countries with new goals and aspirations to improve our tourism, economic and political bonds,” Aktunç said.

He also said that there was room to enhance relations between the two countries in the field of education as there were currently only 200 students from Azerbaijan enrolled in TRNC universities.
