The 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was celebrated in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

TRNC Baku Representative Ufuk Turganer emphasized at the celebration reception that November 15, 1983 was a turning point in the glorious history of the Turkish Cypriot people.

The TRNC Baku Representative Ufuk Turganer hosted a reception to mark the 40^th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

The reception was attended by Turkish Ambassador to Baku Cahit Bağcı, MPs, representatives of Turkish institutions and organizations operating in Azerbaijan, business people and many guests.

Both the National Anthem and the Azerbaijani National Anthem were sung at the reception where a minutes silence was observed for the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland and for the deceased state elders.

Speaking at the reception, Turganer said that on November 15, 1983, Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş declared the establishment of the TRNC as an independent state in front of the world.

“Despite the unjust and inhumane embargos and isolations imposed by the international community on the Turkish Cypriot people for years, our republic, which is a state that has taken root with its democratic, secular and modern institutions, is growing stronger and developing day by day with the will of our people and the support of the Republic of Türkiye” said Turganer.

The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Azerbaijan National Assembly Samet Seyidov congratulated the 40^th anniversary of the establishment of its sister country the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Seyidov stated that celebrating the founding anniversaries of the TRNC in Azerbaijan has become a pleasant tradition and said, “The victory we achieved in the 2^nd Karabakh War opened new opportunities and new horizons to take our relations with the TRNC to a new level”.

“Our political relations are gradually developing” said Seydiov and added that Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev called the TRNC becoming an observer member of the Organization of Turkic States a ‘historic event’.

“The world should know that Azerbaijan is on the side of the Turkish Cypriots along with Türkiye” he said.
