TRNC celebrates August 1 with ceremonies and events

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus celebrated the August 1st Communal Resistance Day with various ceremonies and events.

In observance of the day, all martyrs’ cemeteries across the country were opened for public visitation.

The 48th anniversary of the Security Forces Command, the 66th anniversary of the Turkish Resistance Organization (TMT), and the 453rd anniversary of the conquest of Cyprus by the Ottomans was celebrated with ceremonies and events.

In line with the August 1st Communal Resistance Day the celebrations in the capital Lefkoşa began at 9.30am with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Atatürk monument.

At 10am a ceremony was held in front of the Martyrs Monument.

Speeches highlighting the importance of the day were delivered at both ceremonies.
