TRNC citizen Mensur Kaya stranded in Sudan returns safely to TRNC

Another Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) citizen stranded in Sudan due to the internal conflict has returned safely to the country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday announced that TRNC citizen Mensur Kaya, who was stranded in Sudan after the outbreak of clashes between warring factions, was first evacuated to Kayseri via a flight organized by the Turkish government.

The TRNC Embassy in Ankara then organised his return flight to the TRNC.

Kaya, who was evacuated from Sudan as a result of the initiatives taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was welcomed by his family, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director of Consular Affairs Hüsnü Duba and Protocol Director Asu Muhtaroğlu at Ercan Airport.

Speaking to reporters at Ercan, Kaya thanked both Turkish and TRNC officials who were in constant communication with him from the very start.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs which issued a written statement said that Mr. Kaya who had been stranded in Sudan since April 15 when clashes erupted between warring parties had been monitored from the beginning.

“Our Ministry contacted the Turkish Foreign Ministry and the Turkish Embassy in Khartoum, providing them with information about the situation and location of our citizens. They in return initiated the necessary action to evacuate our citizens,” the statement read.
