TRNC condemns thwarted terrorist attack in Ankara

TRNC state and government officials have shown their support for Türkiye and denounced a thwarted terrorist attack in the Turkish capital Ankara on Sunday morning.

During the incident, two police officers sustained minor injuries when one of the two terrorists detonated an explosive device in front of the General Directorate of Security in the city.

President Ersin Tatar, the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel also condemned the incident with messages issued on Sunday.

President Tatar, in his message, said, “I wish a speedy recovery to the police officers injured in the heinous terrorist attack that occurred this morning in front of the entrance gate of the Ministry of Interior, General Directorate of Security, in our motherland, the Republic of Türkiye. I strongly condemn this attack.”

Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly, Zorlu Töre, also condemned the attack, stating that such vile attacks, like in the past, cannot cast a shadow over the unity and integrity of the Turkish nation today.

Instead, he emphasized that it would further strengthen the determination to eliminate terrorism.

In his message, Töre added, “We are one with our motherland, we are united, and together we are the Turkish nation. I congratulate the security forces who ensured the failure of the terrorist attack and wish a speedy recovery to our injured brothers and sisters. I extend my best wishes to the Republic of Türkiye and the noble Turkish nation.”

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, in his message, also expressed his best wishes for a speedy recovery to the police officers injured in the attack.
