President Ersin Tatar attended a panel discussion titled “The historical evolution of the TRNC from past to present on its 40th anniversary” organized by the Presidential History and Research Committee under the auspices of the Presidency.

Delivering the closing speech at the panel, President Tatar stated that the sovereignty of Cyprus has never belonged to the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo, but the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo attempted to create the perception that they are the sole owners of the island with their aim of Enosis during the British Administration.

He said that it was important to scan the archives in order to shed light on the history for future generations.

Stating that there is a world where the ruthless and most powerful write their own laws, Tatar emphasized that in order for the Turkish Cypriots to maintain their existence in this geography, a smart policy in harmony with Türkiye should be defended to the end.

Stating that in order to protect the Blue Homeland, a national policy that is carried out together with Türkiye is of vital importance, President Tatar said that the only way to obtain a powerful nation is to be united.

Noting that the Turkish Cypriot people should be respected as they can represent themselves everywhere, Tatar said “The Turkish Cypriot people are a separate people. Since we are a separate people, the UN Declarations and other international conventions say that every people has the right to self-determination.”

“Since the Turkish Cypriot people have these characteristics as a separate people, despite all the obstacles by the international community, we are a people who can represent ourselves in every branch with our own artists and athletes without giving up, and such a people should be respected” said Tatar.

Stating that although the Greek Cypriots rejected the Annan Plan, they were unilaterally admitted to the EU and now they are blocking the way for the Turkish Cypriot people and trying to divide the Turkish Cypriot people from within, Tatar said “we will not come to such a game”.

He said that the young people were now aware of what the right path is and emphasized once again that if there is to be an agreement in Cyprus, it will be through the recognition of sovereign equality.

Underlining that the TRNC is a reality even though it is not recognized by the international community at the moment, Tatar called on everyone not to criticise the TRNC.

“There is an order here there is a state, justice, public order and security. The qualities of any state are also here” he said.

Also pointing to the importance of protecting the environment and national and spiritual values, he emphasized that the presence of the Turkish military on the island is vital for the continuation of the existence of the Turkish Cypriot people.
