The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has gained full membership in the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) International Civil Protection Mechanism.

With the signing by member states and the official establishment of the Organization of Turkic States Civil Protection Mechanism as an international entity, the TRNC will take its place as a full member within this mechanism.

According to information provided by the Civil Defence Organization Presidency, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has achieved full membership in the International Civil Protection Mechanism established under the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), actively participating in all meetings and the entire establishment process from the very beginning.

The agreement, prepared in line with the decision made at the 8th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Istanbul on November 12, 2021, was signed at the 11th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on November 6, 2024.

As part of the agreement, the Türkiye-based Organization of Turkic States Civil Protection Mechanism was established.

As a result of this agreement the newly established mechanism will intervene in disasters occurring on the territories of member and observer countries.

With the signing of the agreement, observer countries will be granted full membership in the mechanism and will take active roles in all activities.

Also a joint disaster response capacity will be created to support emergency needs in case of disasters and emergencies in the territories of member, observer, and other states.

With the entry into force of the Civil Protection Mechanism, which has been signed by the member states of the Organization of Turkic States and has become an international organization, the TRNC will take its place as a full member within the mechanism.
