The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is hosting the Women in the Turkic World Workshop.
The “Women in the Turkic World Workshop” organized in cooperation with the Cyprus Turkish Entrepreneur Women’s Association (GİKAD), Umay Ana Union of Women of the Turkic World (UMAYDER), Union of Turkish Academicians, Istanbul Gedik University Uzbekistan Culture Solidarity and Cooperation Association, Eastern Mediterranean University Women’s Research and Education Center has begun.
In the workshop held in Girne, the place of women in the Turkic World is being discussed under the titles of “Women in History and Migration”, “Women’s Rights in the Turkic World”, “Women in Academia”, “Women in Politics” and “Women in Trade and Entrepreneurship”.
In the workshop organized with the participation of representatives from different regions of the Turkic World such as Türkiye, Meskhetia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, East Turkestan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Crimea, Uzbekistan, Greece and Iraqi Turkmens, the historical and current roles of women will be discussed, and solution-oriented suggestions will be developed.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, UMAYDER and TÜRKKAB TRNC Representative Associate Professor Dr. Süheyla Üçışık Erbilen stated that Turkish Cypriots, who have been struggling for their existence for many years, have been living under embargoes, isolations and economic social problems for 41 years.
Erbilen emphasized that the states of the Turkic World are of great importance in the promotion and survival of the TRNC.
GİKAD President İçim Çağıner Kavuklu emphasized that women were the cornerstone of the success of Turkish Cypriots in their struggle for existence.
Kavuklu reminded that Turkish Cypriot women, who play a decisive role in the family and society, struggle to survive in different economic activities under political inequalities and embargoes, while keeping their values alive and transferring them to the future.
UMAYDER and TÜRKKAB President Professor Dr. Mualla Uydu Yücel said that they will work together to increase the recognition of the TRNC, the last state established by the Turks.
President Ersin Tatar also delivered a speech at the opening of the workshop.
He highlighted the unity and solidarity among the Turkish states in Turkish Lands and the blue homeland.
Tatar emphasized that the Turkish Cypriot women have played a crucial role in the struggle against the injustices imposed by the western world, and that they are the true heroes of this fight.
He credited his upbringing by his mother, stating that Turkish women are known for their love, affection, and willingness to sacrifice everything for their children.
Tatar also mentioned the historical journey of the Turks from Central Asia to Anatolia, highlighting their resilience in overcoming challenges.
As the President of the TRNC, he expressed pride and happiness in being part of a gathering that included leaders from Turkic World States and stressed the significance of such events in strengthening social, cultural, economic, and emotional bonds within the Turkic World.
