Roads in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus are set to be included in Google Street View, while its profile on Google Earth and Google Maps will also be boosted.
The news comes following the signing of a protocol between the Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı and Fact Innovation and Technologies Director Sadi Yolgeçen and will see a Google scanning vehicle visit the north to collect data.
Arıklı, who signed the protocol, noted that an important step had been taken to increase the visibility and promotion of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on the international stage.
According to the information provided by the ministry, Arıklı mentioned that with the protocol, the main roads, divided roads, and roads within district boundaries of the country will be scanned with a special vehicle and camera, and the obtained data will be published on Google platforms.
“The main purpose of this project is to increase the visibility of Northern Cyprus on the international stage by presenting the country’s infrastructure, transportation network, and geographical structure in detail to millions of users worldwide. This project will provide an opportunity to introduce our country’s tourism and economic potential to a broader audience,” he said.
Sadi Yolgeçen for his part expressed their pride in the project and stated, “Introducing our country’s technological infrastructure worldwide and enabling a closer exploration of Northern Cyprus through digital maps is a source of great excitement for our company.”
