TRNC to participate in TÜRKPA meeting

The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly, Zorlu Töre and his delegation travelled to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan on Tuesday to will attend the General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TÜRKPA).

Making a statement upon his arrival in Baku, Töre noted that their expectation is for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to become a full member of TÜRKPA.

The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre is in Baku with an official invitation from the Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahibe Gafarova.

Töre and his delegation were welcomed at Heydar Aliyev International Airport by the Chairman of the TRNC Friendship Group of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan Javanshir Feyziyev, TURKPA Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er and TRNC Representative to Azerbaijan Ambassador Ufuk Arca Turganer.

Delivering a short speech upon his arrival, the Speaker of the Parliament Töre expressed his happiness to be in Azerbaijan and said that they would take part in the meetings they have longed for.

He noted that they expected the TRNC to become a full member of TÜRKPA.

Noting that they expect the relations with the Turkic States to increase, Töre stated that Azerbaijan is a key country in this sense.

“Our unity will become stronger,” Töre said.

The Chairman of the TRNC Friendship Group of the Azerbaijan National Assembly Javanshir Feyziyev for his part reminded that this was the first visit of the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly to Baku after the formation of the friendship groups between the Assemblies of the two countries and said that they wanted to host him in the best way possible.

Stating that they are pleased to see the TRNC Parliamentary delegation in Azerbaijan, Feyziyev said that they believe that the relations between the Assemblies of the two countries will further increase.

Within the framework of his contacts in Baku, Parliamentary Speaker Töre met with the members of the Azerbaijan Eternal Unity Youth Public Union.
