The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was represented at the 2nd Ministerial Meeting on Disaster and Emergency Management of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) that was held in Azerbaijan.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency of the Civil Defence Organization, the meeting, which was attended by the member countries of the Organization of Turkic States Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and the TRNC delegation as an observer member, took place in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, from September 6-8.

The TRNC delegation was lead by Minister of Interior Dursun Oğuz.

In his speech at the meeting Minister Oğuz said that the Emergency Management Plan was prepared against any disaster and emergency situation that may occur in the TRNC.

Stating that the Civil Defence Mechanism of the Organization of Turkic States, which was established after the earthquake, was capable of carrying out activities such as providing emergency support, delivering humanitarian and medical aid, and setting up shelters in the event of disasters that may occur Turkic world countries, Oğuz emphasized that the TRNC is determined to take part in and support all kinds of activities especially in the field of disaster and emergency operations.

“The TRNC is ready to contribute to all issues to be addressed under the roof of the OTS’s civil protection mechanism, to share its experiences and to host a joint exercise,” said Oğuz.

Following the speeches, a declaration prepared by the ministers of the member countries was signed.

With the participation of the search and rescue teams of the Organization of Turkic States, the joint ‘Baku 2023 International Exercise’ was held in Alat Port near Baku.

The TRNC delegation participated in the exercise as an observer.
