Türkiye’s Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç emphasized Türkiye’s steadfast support for the Turkish Cypriot people during an event in Bartın, where he met with families of Cyprus martyrs and veterans.
Minister Tunç declared that Türkiye would never abandon the Turkish Cypriots and would remain their strongest ally in their just cause.
The event was also attended by President Ersin Tatar.
In his speech, the Turkish Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç hailed the recent achievement of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in gaining observer status in both the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) and the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TÜRKPA).
He described this milestone as a significant step forward.
“Our goal is to ensure that this process continues with further steps, ultimately leading to the recognition of Northern Cyprus as an independent and sovereign state,” Tunç stated.
He also touched on the ongoing legal case concerning the “Champion Angels,” the youth athletes from the TRNC who tragically lost their lives in the February 6 earthquake in Adıyaman.
“Let there be no doubt for the families of our Champion Angels. We are closely monitoring this case,” Tunç reassured.
Reflecting on the 50th anniversary of the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation, the Turkish Justice Minister noted that the unjust attacks and oppression, carried out in full view of the world, were brought to a halt by Türkiye’s intervention through the Peace Operation, demonstrating that Türkiye has always stood by the Turkish Cypriots.
Tunç further underscored the importance of the two-state solution for Cyprus, a vision strongly supported by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
“Everyone must recognize that the Turkish Cypriot people are a fundamental and founding element of the island. As President Erdoğan has stated, the two-state solution is crucial. A solution on the island can only be achieved if the rights of the Turkish Cypriot side are fully recognized and they are treated as equals in all negotiations with the Greek Cypriot side,” he asserted.
Tunç also reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to protecting its own rights and those of the Turkish Cypriots in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Concluding his remarks, Tunç reiterated the significance of the Cyprus cause to the Turkish nation stating that Türkiye will continue to be the strongest supporter of the Turkish Cypriots in their just struggle and will never leave them alone.
