Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay on Tuesday said that Turkey wants to increase production in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Speaking during a visit to the Anadolu News Agency, Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay said that major projects were in the pipeline for the TRNC.
“On the one hand we are working on major projects where we will be able to advance economic development and on the other political negotiations are continuing,” said Oktay.
Explaining that they wanted to establish production infrastructure in the TRNC, Oktay said that the country, like other places around the world, was experiencing difficulties due to the pandemic even though infrastructure for higher education and tourism existed.
“What we have discovered is that there are alternative service sectors in the TRNC and by strengthening these sectors we can create employment and take our rightful place in the international arena,” Oktay said.
The Turkish Vice President said that the TRNC had upgraded its status in the Eastern Mediterranean with Turkey’s support.
“Although there were many attempts to destroy the Turkish Cypriots until the peace operation was carried out in 1974, today we have a Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus that represents the Turkish Cypriot people,” he said.
Oktay pointed out that the TRNC was a sovereign state which exercised its own sovereign rights.
He added that Turkey’s position on the Cyprus Issue will be very clear when the two sides, the three guarantor countries and the UN meet in Geneva between April 27-29.
