Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu said that the national policy adopted by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Türkiye for the island is a policy that will also make life easier for the Greek Cypriots in South Cyprus.

Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu evaluated the Cyprus issuing.

Reminding that Türkiye’s air and sea ports are closed to South Cyprus, Feyzioğlu noted that when the Greek Cypriots accept that there are two equal states on the island and give up on their dreams of Enosis uniting the island with Greece, then they will see that life will become easier and cheaper for them as well.

Explaining that South Cyprus could also benefit from the water coming from Türkiye, simply by adding another line to the pipeline, Feyzioğlu said that the interconnect electricity project is another great opportunity for the whole island, adding that the Greek Cypriot side could sell the excess electricity it produces to Europe via Türkiye.

“It is the Greek Cypriots who refuse to give up on the federation model. It has been tried on numerous occasions and failed, the Annan model failed, the Crans Montana model failed, there is nothing left” said Feyzioğlu and adding that he does not comprehend why they are so insistent on this model.

Also touching upon the fact that the TRNC has become an observer member of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) and its importance, Feyzioğlu noted that the population and contribution to production of this vast geography is enormous and its contribution to the economy and production will grow even more.

He emphasized that the TRNC is the stronghold of the Turkish nation in the Eastern Mediterranean and noted that the Eastern Mediterranean is currently the most strategically important region in the world.

“The TRNC exists in the most strategic region of the world. There is a Turkish stronghold. With this membership, Türkiye and the TRNC have the opportunity to use this ground to explain to the OTS member countries that the Turkish stronghold in the Eastern Mediterranean is also in their interests” said Feyzioğlu.

Referring to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s call to the world to recognize the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Feyzioğlu said that this call made by the Turkish President is actually telling the world that the TRNC is already a legitimate state in accordance with international law.

Referring to the infrastructure investments made to increase the welfare level of the Turkish Cypriots, the Ambassador underlined that Ercan Airport is one of the largest airports on the island and stated that due to the new airport, more tourism investment opportunities have emerged in the TRNC.
