Türkiye’s Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler delivered important messages on the Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus.

Stating that resolving the Cyprus issue was one of Ankara’s top priorities, Güler said, “It should be known that the way to resolve this is through recognition of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people.”

Speaking during discussions on his ministry’s budget at the Turkish Grand National Assembly Planning and Budget Commission, Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler highlighted a positive period in relations with Greece.

“Our goal is to resolve our problems in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean in accordance with international law, good neighborly relations, and the spirit of alliance,” he said.

Addressing the Cyprus issue, Minister Güler noted that no results have been achieved so far, due to the uncompromising stance of the Greek Cypriot side in the methods proposed for a solution, emphasizing that the Greek Cyprus side is only contributing to the deadlock.

Highlighting the urgency of resolving the Cyprus issue, Güler said, “It should be known that the way to resolve this is through the recognition of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people. Resolving the Cyprus issue at the earliest, in a way that secures the legitimate interests and security of the Turkish Cypriot people, is one of our country’s top priorities.”

Güler invited the international community to “support a fair and permanent solution, and approach the issue in a reasonable and logical manner, abandoning support for the claims of only one side.”
