Mehmet Kemal Bozay, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs, on Monday virtually addressed the High Level Segment of the 52nd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, held in Geneva.

During his speech, Bozay drew attention to the embargoes imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people, stating that they were being subjected to a human rights violation.

The Turkish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs on Monday carried the Cyprus Issue to the agenda during his address to the 52nd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, held in Geneva.

Deputy Minister Bozay who delivered his speech virtually also focused on current global issues concerning human rights and emphasized our country’s strong commitment to protecting and promoting fundamental rights and freedoms.

On the Cyprus issue, Bozay said that Turkish Cypriots had been forcefully stripped of their basic rights of sovereign equality and equal international status in 1963.

“Today Turkish Cypriots are unable to exercise their basic human rights and freedoms due to the unjust and inhumane embargoes imposed by the international community. Their plight must be addressed by the Human Rights Council,” he said.
