Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Wednesday said that his country can be part of the guarantor mechanism that Ankara proposed if an agreement on a two-state solution is reached.
Fidan warned that without the immediate implementation of the two-state solution, a fourth Gaza war is inevitable.
“We will be perpetually entangled in conflicts,” he said.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan gave an interview to Sky News Arabia he said that TĂĽrkiye will continue its peacekeeping activities in Cyprus.
In response to a question about Türkiye’s military presence in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Fidan said “The Cyprus issue is a long one. Since 1960, especially between 63-74, great atrocities were committed against the Turkish community there by EOKA gangs. They tried to displace the Turkish Cypriots there”.
He continued by saying that in 1974, the Cyprus Peace Operation was carried out and since July 20, 1974, peace has prevailed on the island and no one has died since then.
“This is a very precious thing. In other words, because of the presence of the Turkish Armed Forces on the island, there is now peace on the island and both communities live in peace” said Fidan.
“We already have soldiers on the island. This is a known fact. We have thousands of soldiers there. Our various capabilities are there, our ships are there. We will continue our peacekeeping activities there” he added.
