Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has said that the observer status granted to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) by the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) has strengthened the access of the organisation to the Mediterranean.

Speaking to reporters after a trilateral summit of foreign ministers of Türkiye, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, Turkish Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu said that numerous steps had been taken at the recent OTS Summit in Samarkand to strengthen communication and commercial ties between Turkic states.

He said that allowing the TRNC to become an observer to the organisation has provided the OTS with a stronger foothold in the Mediterranean.

Çavuşoğlu also said that more steps will be taken in the near future and that they attached great importance to enhancing ties not just politically and economically but culturally and socially as well.
