Date Added: 19 March 2025

The Spokesperson of the Republic of Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Öncü Keçeli, made statements regarding the informal Cyprus meeting held in Geneva.

Keçeli stated that, as a result of the discussions, while no common ground was found for a final resolution of the Cyprus issue, the parties agreed on areas where cooperation could be enhanced for the benefit of both communities.

He stressed that these developments marked an important step in fostering good neighbourly relations between the two states on the island.

Noting that it was decided to hold a second informal meeting in a similar format at the end of July, Keçeli noted that the UN Secretary-General envisioned appointing a Personal Envoy for the Cyprus issue.

Keçeli added that they would continue their efforts, in close consultation with the Turkish Cypriot side, to strengthen the culture of cooperation between the two parties on the island.
