Turkish Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, is in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) for official contacts and to sign several cooperation agreements.
The Turkish Minister who arrived at Ercan Airport this morning was first received by President Ersin Tatar.
Speaking during the meeting, the Turkish Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Murat Kurum stated, “These lands are entrusted to us by our martyrs. The unity and solidarity of the Turkish Cypriot people are very important to us.”
He continued, “We will continue our efforts for the recognition of the two separate peoples on this island under the leadership of [Turkish] President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.”
Kurum also announced that they plan to complete and hand over the Presidential and parliamentary buildings to the Turkish Cypriot people by the end of the year.
He also noted that the construction of the High Court building and the library is in its final stages.
In addition, Kurum mentioned that they would introduce a geographic information systems infrastructure to the TRNC.
For his part, President Ersin Tatar expressed gratitude to Turkish President Erdoğan for his call at the UN 79th General Assembly and for the infrastructure Türkiye has contributed to the TRNC.
Tatar added that with the completion of the Presidential and Parliament Complex, a 400-dönüm area extending to the border crossing would be revitalized.
Kurum’s meeting with Prime Minister Ünal Üstel scheduled for this afternoon was cancelled after the Prime Minister was admitted to hospital after falling ill.
Later in the afternoon, the Turkish Minister will meet separately with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu, the Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı, and the Minister of Interior Dursun Oğuz.
Several cooperation agreements are set to be signed.
Kurum will depart from the island in the evening after completing his engagements.
