
The Republic of Türkiye reacted to the Greek Cypriot administration’s attempts to create a fait accompli regarding hydrocarbon resources in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Sources from the Turkish Ministry of National Defence, regarding the agreement signed between Egypt and the Greek Cypriot Administration, stated, “Just like other agreements that do not include the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), disregard the interests of Turkish Cypriots, and restrict their rights, this agreement is also null and void.”
“As Türkiye, we will not hesitate to exercise the powers granted to us by our guarantor status against the Greek Cypriot Administration’s activities that threaten the security of Turkish Cypriots and the environment of peace and stability on the island” ministry sources also warned.
Sources from the Turkish Ministry of National Defence answered journalists’ questions following the Ministry’s weekly press briefing.
Regarding the recent agreement signed between the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus and Egypt, Ministry sources stated, “The Greek Cypriot administration continues its policy of usurping the rights of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) by creating a fait accompli. This agreement signed between the Greek Cypriot Administration and Egypt is a step that threatens regional stability and harms efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue.”
“Like other agreements that do not include the TRNC, disregard the interests of Turkish Cypriots, and restrict their rights, this agreement is also null and void” the ministry sources stressed.
