Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defence has strongly condemned the “Defence Cooperation Roadmap” agreement between the United States and the Greek Cypriot Administration.
The Ministry criticized the agreement for disregarding the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and viewing the Greek Cypriot side as the sole representative of the island, calling for a review of this approach.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Turkish National Defence Ministry emphasized that these steps undermine the US’s previously neutral stance on Cyprus.
It reiterated that the agreement fails to acknowledge the TRNC and falsely presents the Greek Cypriot administration as the island’s exclusive representative.
The Ministry also pointed out that the US, which frequently advocates for fair and lasting peace on the island, should reflect this stance through a truly neutral approach.
It stressed that a sustainable solution for the island requires a cooperative relationship based on sovereign equality and equal international status.
Türkiye remains committed, as in the past, to safeguarding the security, peace, and prosperity of the Turkish Cypriots at all costs under its guarantee and alliance agreements.
