The Turkish Ministry of National Defence issued a statement on Thursday regarding the TV series “Famagusta,” which is announced to be released on the digital streaming platform Neftlix later this month.
The Ministry’s Press and Public Relations Advisor, Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk, said, “It is clear that the series titled ‘Famagusta,’ which distorts historical facts and contains great disrespect for the cherished memory of our Turkish Cypriot brothers who were mercilessly massacred by Greek Cypriot gangs, as well as similar provocative attempts, will not benefit anyone, including the Greek Cypriot side.”
Admiral Aktürk stressed that the Turkish Armed Forces contributed to international security, peace, and stability within the framework of bilateral relations and international missions.
“It is clear that the series titled ‘Famagusta,’ announced to be broadcast on a digital platform and containing great disrespect for the cherished memory of our Turkish Cypriot brothers who were mercilessly massacred by Greek Cypriot gangs by distorting historical facts, and similar provocative attempts will not benefit anyone, including the Greek Cypriot side,” Aktürk said.
He added that such futile efforts, which smear the Cyprus Peace Operation that brought peace and tranquillity to both sides and serve to perpetuate deadlock, harm the security environment established on the island.
“On the other hand, the ’50th Year Documentary,’ prepared by our ministry, which tells the real events rather than fabricated scenarios leading up to the Cyprus Peace Operation, will be broadcast with English subtitles on various platforms. As we have always done, we will continue to stand by our Cypriot brothers in our national cause concerning Cyprus” Aktürk stressed.
He also added that the documentary titled “The Next Day,” which objectively and based on historical documents depicts the atrocities and sufferings inflicted by the Greek Cypriots on the Turkish Cypriots during the National Struggle period will be broadcast on TRT Documentary on September 9th.
