During a press briefing organized by the Turkish Ministry of National Defence, Spokesperson Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk addressed the Cyprus issue, stressing Türkiye’s enduring commitment to the security, peace, and prosperity of the Turkish Cypriots.
Aktürk underlined that, just as in the past, Türkiye will continue to fulfil its obligations under the guarantee and alliance agreements, ensuring the protection of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Addressing recent reports regarding France’s provision of Leclerc tanks and Mistral missiles to the Greek Cypriot Administration, Aktürk stressed that Türkiye is closely monitoring any developments that could disrupt the balance on the island and pose a threat to the security of the TRNC.
Reminding that similar promises of military aid had been made to the Greek Cypriot side in the past, he reaffirmed that Türkiye remained fully committed, both now and in the future, to ensuring the safety, peace, and welfare of the Turkish Cypriots under the framework of its guarantee and alliance agreements.
“Türkiye will continue to take all necessary military and political measures, at any cost, to protect the rights and interests of the TRNC” Aktürk stressed.
