The Turkish Ministry of National Defence (MSB) on Thursday responded to claims that the United States intends to lease military bases in the Greek Cypriot administration (GCA), stating that they are closely monitoring any developments that could disrupt the balance on the island and pose a security threat to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

In a statement following a press briefing, Turkish Defence Ministry sources emphasized that Türkiye is committed to ensuring the security of the TRNC and safeguarding its rights and interests.

The sources reaffirmed that Türkiye will continue to take necessary military and political measures against any foreign military presence on the island, which could violate international law.

Ankara also reiterated its ongoing commitment, as outlined in the ‘Guarantee and Alliance Treaties’, to protect the safety, peace, and well-being of the Turkish Cypriots, and pledged to take all necessary steps to secure their security regardless of the circumstances.
