Türkiye’s new Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz carried out his first official overseas visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Sunday.

As soon as he arrived in the TRNC, the Turkish Vice President proceeded to the new Ercan Airport where he carried out a technical meeting with the authorities.

Later evaluating his inspection of the new Ercan Airport, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz said that they attached great importance to the speedy completion of the project ahead of the tourism season.

He said the new Ercan Airport terminal building will be inaugurated on July 20 as announced by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during his recent visit to the TRNC.

Yılmaz added that work was underway to solve the few technical problems that remained as soon as possible.

Noting that the new airport was an attractive work of architecture that will draw investment opportunities to the country, Yılmaz pointed out that a country’s airport was the first thing that people saw when they arrived which was why creating first impressions was important.

“Over time, additions will be made to improve the capacity and increase the services provided. It is our common desire that the airport be opened as soon as possible,” said Yılmaz.

Stating that the financial cooperation protocol signed between the two countries is a solid indicator of the importance Türkiye attaches to the TRNC, Yılmaz emphasized that bringing electricity via cable will be their priority in the new period.
