Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz will be arriving in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Friday for a two-day official visit.
The Turkish Vice President will be reviewing and inspecting ongoing projects in the field as well as meet with his TRNC counterparts.
Announcing his visit on Turkish state TV, Yılmaz reiterated Türkiye’s support for a two-state solution.
“As TRNC President Ersin Tatar has consistently emphasized, we advocate for a two-state solution. We are providing our strongest support for this approach. Recently, we have made significant progress on this matter, particularly in platforms such as the Organization of Turkic States,” Yılmaz stated.
During a live broadcast on TRT Haber, the Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz discussed Türkiye’s relations with the TRNC.
He highlighted the solidarity and cooperation between Türkiye and the TRNC across all areas, emphasizing that the relationship is at its highest level.
Yılmaz also emphasized Türkiye’s efforts to defend the rights and legal interests of the Turkish Cypriots on the international stage, combat unjust embargoes, and increase the interaction of Turkish Cypriots and local businesses with the world.
“We are committed to standing with the Turkish Cypriots in all aspects,” Yılmaz stated. “I believe that one day these unfair embargoes will end, and the TRNC will achieve a very different international status. We have been together for 50 years, and there has been a peaceful environment on the island since the Peace Operation. The world needs to see this. Without the operation, we might have seen scenes in Cyprus similar to those in Gaza today. It’s fortunate that the operation was carried out, ensuring peace and security for 50 years, and significant progress has been made for the Turkish Cypriots,” he added.
Focusing on economic relations, Yılmaz pointed out the comprehensive financial cooperation package between Türkiye and the TRNC, which now amounts to ₺16bn.
“This package includes numerous projects spanning energy, health, agriculture, and transportation. A new Presidential and Assembly complex is also under construction,” he said.
Yılmaz underscored the ongoing efforts to further develop relations in all fields, stating, “We are determined to enhance our relationships not only at the bureaucratic level but also with the public sector, private sector, and civil society.”
Regarding his planned visit to the TRNC between September 6-7, Yılmaz said, “We will have the chance to see some of our projects in the field and speak with our counterparts.”
Yılmaz also addressed the controversy surrounding a recent TV series with pro-Greek-Greek Cypriot narratives. “Turkish Cypriots and the Cyprus Peace Operation have unfortunately faced another wave of black propaganda recently, but no scenario can change historical facts. Regardless of what they do, history remains clear. Both Türkiye and the TRNC will continue to resist these attempts to distort history,” he asserted.
