Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz on Monday visited Prime Minister Ünal Üstel as part of his contacts in the TRNC.
During the meeting, Yılmaz thanked Prime Minister Üstel and his team for their close attention and hospitality.
Yılmaz, said that they will continue to work for further advancement of relations between the Republic of Türkiye and the TRNC and for the common interests of the two countries.
He added that the opening of Ercan Airport was currently their priority followed by the interconnectivity project.
“The interconnectivity project will not only bring economic prosperity but will also have a very positive impact on the environment.
There are many topics we need to work on, from education to healthcare, transportation, promotion of private sector investments, and entrepreneurship. We will continue to work together in the coming period,” he said.
For his part, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel congratulated Vice President Yılmaz on his new position and expressed his belief that they will bring to life significant projects together.
Üstel stated that the relations between Türkiye and the TRNC were at the highest level and that the two countries were inseparable.
Highlighting the importance of the economic and financial assistance protocol signed between Türkiye and the TRNC, Prime Minister Üstel said that they will take steps in line with the interests of this country within the framework of the Economic and Financial Cooperation Protocol.
He added that that they will fulfil their responsibilities as the government to open Ercan Airport on July 20 and delivered a message regarding the energy issue.
“The water project, which is a project of the century, has been realized. Unfortunately, we could not realize the energy project in the same period. With interconnectivity, we will increase energy diversity with the arrival of electricity from the motherland, and we will eliminate the problems in energy, ensuring energy supply security. Our country’s economy will advance more rapidly,” he said.
Üstel stated that significant projects will be carried out in the healthcare and education sectors through the protocol that includes the construction of a new 500-bed hospital in Lefkoşa, new hospitals in Güzelyurt, Girne, and Karpaz as well as 25 new schools.
Meanwhile, the Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz also paid a visit to the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre on Monday.
The two discussed bilateral relations between the two countries.
Yılmaz departed from the TRNC on Monday evening following the completion of his contacts.
